What is Testosterone?

Testosterone is a male sex hormone. It is produced in the testicles. Hormones are important for physical and mental health. When men have low testosterone levels, or symptoms of low testosterone, this is called testosterone deficiency (TD).Testosterone decreases with age after 40 years, and also in people with health problems such as insulin resistance and/or obesity. Some patients present symptoms of low testosterone levels, but have “normal” levels according to the laboratory scale,However, today, we understand that optimal testosterone levels are unique to each patient and do not necessarily follow established numbers. Each man has his “unique” number where the resolution of symptoms occurs.

Low Testosterone Symptoms

  • Reduced libido (sexual desire): One of the most common symptoms is decreased sexual desire.

  • Erectile dysfunction: difficulty achieving or maintaining an erection during sexual activity.

  • Fatigue: Persistent feeling of tiredness and lack of energy.

  • Depression: Low testosterone levels can contribute to mood swings, including feelings of sadness or depression.

  • Decreased cognitive abilities: Some people may experience difficulties with memory, concentration, or mental clarity.

  • Reduced muscle mass: Testosterone plays a role in maintaining muscle mass, so low levels can lead to a decrease in muscle volume.
